Photophores on body. Anterior end of branchiostegal photophore series with a forward-facing, V-shaped commissure. A single opercular spine. Uppermost pectoral fin rays with glands present. No scales. Four lateral lines.

Color

Body pale with diffuse dark blotches and saddles on the dorsum. Three or four of the blotches under the dorsal fin are larger saddle bars, and extend partially onto the dorsal fin. Another saddle on the caudal fin base. A lightly pigmented area between orbits. Dorsal and anal fins pale with dark margins. Pectoral fin with dark spots on the outer half and at the base. Sides silvery.
