Body very slender. Head length more than 5 times in SL. Snout half of HL. Nostrils slightly before end of maxilla. Dorsal fin origin behind pelvic fin base and well behind middle of space between pectoral and anal fin origins. Anus above pelvic fin tip. Scaleless except for along lateral line. Peritoneal sections 23–26.

Color

Body dark dorsally grading to pale on the belly. No markings apparent.

Size

Maximum size to 159.5mm SL.

Habitat

Type material taken at 2000m but likely to be taken in midwater between that and the surface.

Range

Western Caribbean to off northeastern South America and eastward to the central Atlantic between Africa and the hump of Brazil.
